5 specific features a company or employer would need to have to catch my interest:

  • A company/employer who never stops teaching their employees
  • Ability to grow within the company
  • A company/employer who genuinely care about their employees and doesn't just think of them as "a worker"
  • A company that encourages their employers to do what makes them happy, for them to go after what they want
  • A company with good credibility, their reputation could make or break them so I would not want to work for someone who has a poor reputation 

What I would want to gain from my work experience: given that my main focus in the long run is to own/operate a gym:
  • Learn how a business operates 
  • I want to gain knowledge on what other managers/owners do to make their company so successful
  • How a business runs interests me so much so anything that I could get from that would interest me
  • Computer skills, different software that other managers/owners use to help run their business
  • Learn how a company hires their employers, what they look for

I chose LA Fitness in Lake Grover New York. The job is for the club operations manager; the club operations manager is to ensure members receive exceptional service from a happy and friendly staff, the facility is clean, and all membership issues are resolved. They update past due accounts, manage payroll and the supplies budget. This is a full time position so around 40-45 hours each week and they require you to have at least 3 years of management experience and a 4 year degree is necessary. It would also help if the club operations manager has an interest in health and fitness, which makes sense since this is a position at a gym. Personally, I have worked for La fitness before and it is a very clean and organized club and they treat their staff well, however since I worked at the one in East Brunswick, NJ and this is in New York I'm not sure how they treat their staff. This seems like a good job though and well paying, based off of commission for every sale that is made from me...

Blog 10

The assignments that I feel I was most challenged by and has helped me learn more was this last assignment, our group having to write a proposal, than a report and than finally the oral presentation. This assignment brought everything together that we learned all semester and it was turned into three different assignments but for the one big project. It was cool making up a business and then having to research Coca-Cola and tying them both together. We also had to research different nonprofit organizations so they could help out Coca-Cola, and learning about them and applying it to our presentation was interesting too.
